The Mechanics of Biological Materials/Structures Laboratory at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Research Associate position working on a NIH supported research project. In this five-year project, we intend to elucidate the effect of proteoglycans on the age-related deterioration of bone quality and to develop therapeutic strategies for preventing or deterring such adverse effect. This position requires a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or a closely related field and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary (engineering, biology, and physics) environment. The incumbent is expected to take a leading role in implementation of the research project and required to help mentor students, publish high impact journal papers, and write grants. Applicants are required to have hands on experience in characterization of mechanical/physical properties of bone or other biological materials. In addition, experiences in AFM and finite element simulations are also preferred.

Interested candidates should send the application as one PDF file containing a letter (explaining research interests, career goals, and qualifications), a CV, and the contact information of at least three references to Dr. Xiaodu Wang using the following contact information.

Postdoc positions are available in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The successful candidate will participate in research projects recently funded by NIH. The projects involve using multiphoton microscopy as a live imaging platform to characterize the interactions between vascular progenitors and mesenchymal progenitors during skeletal repair and regeneration. The study integrates bone tissue engineering, vascular biology, and skeletal biology. The successful candidates must have a MD or PhD degree in biomedical science with published experience in any of these fields: molecular biology, cell biology, tissue engineering, electrospinning/3D writing, or transgenic animal work. Recent graduates will receive substantially more favorable consideration than applicants who have completed 3-4 years of postdoc training. Prior experience with bone biology, small animal surgery or cell sorting is a plus. To apply: please send C.V. and names of three references to:

The Biomedical Engineering Department at Northwestern University and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago are seeking to fill a new tenure-track faculty position in the broad area of muscle and neural bioengineering. Investigators using novel engineering approaches to develop clinically translatable interventions for improving neuromuscular function or to understand the biological processes underlying neuromuscular function are encouraged to apply. We are also interested in investigators using multiscale experimental or computational approaches that bridge between cellular and tissue levels, though the scientific excellence of the candidate is more important than the particular area of research. The collaborative environment between RIC and Northwestern, including the McCormick School of Engineering and the Feinberg School of Medicine, is exceptionally strong, providing multiple opportunities for interactions with the large number of faculty carrying out research in neuromuscular function. The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) develop and maintain a distinguished externally-funded research program, (2) contribute to the teaching and advising of graduate and undergraduate students at Northwestern University, and (3) address the vision of RIC to “set the highest standards in scholarly and applied research in physical medicine and rehabilitation.” The appointment will be made at the level of Assistant Professor, though exceptional candidates at the Associate level will be considered. See www.bme.northwestern.edu, http://www.ric.org/research/, and http://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/ for further information on our faculty and programs. Applicants should upload PDF versions of a brief cover letter, a complete curriculum vitae, the names and contact information for three references, and one statement each of research (up to 3 pages) and teaching (1 page) interests to https://facultysearch.mccormick.nort...ply/index/ODI=. The cover letter should be addressed to the Chair of the Neuromuscular Search Committee. Applications received before November 15, 2015 will receive full consideration but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The earliest starting date is September 1, 2016.

Northwestern University is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. Qualified women and minorities are encouraged to apply. It is the policy of Northwestern University not to discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, color, religion national origin, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, age, disability, citizenship, veteran status or other protected group status. Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in the United States.

    Job Description

The Ohio Musculoskeletal & Neurological Institute (OMNI) at Ohio University is undergoing a targeted expansion to complement and expand the research activities of OMNI scientists. Our expansion includes the hiring of several additional faculty and the construction of a new physical facility for OMNI on the Athens Campus. We seek to hire 2 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (i.e., open rank). OMNI's overarching mission is to improve the treatment, prevention and diagnosis of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders, and as such we seek applications from outstanding scientists working within this scope.

Preference will be given to individuals who perform research that will strengthen one of OMNI's two current programmatic research foci: 1) pain disorders and 2) healthy aging. OMNI currently has five principal investigators with an outstanding track record of NIH funding, and we seek to increase our critical mass of extramurally-funded scientists. Accordingly, the primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to establish and maintain an extramurally-funded research program that produces high impact scholarly activity. The protected time for research will be high for these positions (e.g., 80+%). The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in medical and graduate education programs.

    Job Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A Ph.D. or equivalent is required, and postdoctoral training is preferred.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and accompanied by an excellent benefits and start-up package. These new faculty hires will have a primary appointment in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University with the possibility of an adjunct appointment in other University departments.

The salary for this appointment covers 9 months of effort spread over a 12-month period. Academic base salary may be supplemented with additional grant support as allowed by granting agencies.
