The Mechanics of Biological Materials/Structures Laboratory at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Research Associate position working on a NIH supported research project. In this five-year project, we intend to elucidate the effect of proteoglycans on the age-related deterioration of bone quality and to develop therapeutic strategies for preventing or deterring such adverse effect. This position requires a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or a closely related field and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary (engineering, biology, and physics) environment. The incumbent is expected to take a leading role in implementation of the research project and required to help mentor students, publish high impact journal papers, and write grants. Applicants are required to have hands on experience in characterization of mechanical/physical properties of bone or other biological materials. In addition, experiences in AFM and finite element simulations are also preferred.
Interested candidates should send the application as one PDF file containing a letter (explaining research interests, career goals, and qualifications), a CV, and the contact information of at least three references to Dr. Xiaodu Wang using the following contact information.
